One of our many stops in our Italy trip included the city of Florence. I had been dreaming of visiting the beautiful countryside of Tuscany and my boyfriend being a Sommelier it was only natural that we'd have to put a winery on our travel itinerary. After plenty of research we came across Villa Antinori Chianti Classico. About an hour by car outside of Florence the winery is tucked into the rolling hills of Tuscany. The thing that will grab your attention first is the spectacular modern architecture, which especially for an architecture lover like me will not leave you disappointed.
We had booked a 2 hour private wine tour for about 60 EUR (approx. $70) per person which was led by an extremely knowledgeable and passionate guide and covered everything from history, visiting the wine cellar, learning about the wine making process and ultimately my favorite part the wine tasting! Set in private room overlooking the wine cellar we were able to try their delicious wines, learned about tasting notes and so much more that I can't remember because I might have gotten a little tipsy at the end ;)
We ended our tour with a lunch on the patio of the restaurant "Rinnucio 1180" with a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills and vineyards. The food was incredible (local cuisine with loads of vegetarian options as well!) and belongs just as much to the "Antinori experience" as booking a wine tour. There's nothing quite like drinking a glass of wine that was made from the vines you are looking out on. Make sure you make a reservation in advance since the restaurant is very popular (for a good reason!)
This day trip was definitely my favorite and most memorable part of the time I spent in Italy. Anyone who is looking for a true Italian experience outside of the (sometimes very touristy) hustle and bustle of Florence should reserve a day in their itinerary for visiting Antinori- you won't regret it!
